|SaltyBet stream's intermission screen displayed between matches and betting phases|
|Launch date||July 3rd, 2013(?)|
Users that create their account start with $400 in fictional currency of Salty Bucks that can be used to place their bets. Between every match there is a betting phase during which the players can place their bets. If a player loses all their money they get a bailout of $100 Salty Bucks. SaltyBet also features a paid subscription feature named "Salty Illuminati", joining to which allows users to view match records, edit character stats, and make match requests.
The site currently cycles between 3 modes. The cycle is 100 matchmaking rounds, a 16 character tournament, and 25 exhibition matches.
Salty did the first Dream Cast on July 3rd, 2013. Around that time he was already in talks with other people on ways to expand upon the sites. One of the ideas involved experimenting with the betting concept of games of non FG-genres such as Call of Duty and Starcraft II matches. He named the stream after both the Sega console and the concept of Dream Match games.
Some time after the introduction of the premium "Illuminati" feature at least a few unsavory users made "betting bots" that pulled names out of the stats and made automated bets based on the stats. Salty attempted to combat this in various ways, eventually settling for displaying the names of the combatants on the betting section simply as "Player 1" and "Player 2".
The site was updated in October 28 with newly added "Matchmaking" and "Compendium" systems.. The matchmaking system pits characters in four tiers that are based on the character's win rate. The compendium is a premium feature that allows the Illuminati members to view the current roster and see what current tier a character is in, as well as tweak a character's starting health/power values with Salty Bucks (provided they have a character "unlocked" for those of tier higher than "Potato"). The member can also opt with Salty Bucks to permanently dismiss a "Potato-tier" character from the roster.
Further updates have added exhibition mode, which allows Illuminati members to make match requests. 25 of these matches play out after every tournament. An additional tier, X, was also added for characters that are considered extremely cheap, broken, or overpowered.
- Salty himself named MelvanaInChains (especially Alter Amiba and Ghetto Warmachine), RajaaBoy, Sander 71113 and Reuben Kee among his favourite mugen creators.
